Happy New Year

2012. Really?

Actually, I’m quite excited for the New Year. Fresh beginnings. Resolutions. I’m feeling particularly motivated this year. Not sure why. But I’ll take it.

Wishing you all happiness, health, and a year of wonderful adventure.

ÁBATON Arquitectura: Converted Barn in Spain

Ok. So my last post was a tad kitschy – a bit of a diversion from the kinds of spots I usually gravitate towards. I’m still in Caribbean mode, after all.

But, I do have travel on my mind. I’ve had some pretty incredible trips to Spain over the years and I keep finding spots that make me want to return.

i.e. the entire site of Ábaton architects.

Where to begin? One property is more lovely than the next. But, let’s start here: a converted barn in Extramadura – a Western part of Spain.

St. Bart’s: Hotel La Banane

What is it about travel – the more you get away, the more you want to get away? I just returned from a pretty incredible Caribbean vacation and I’m already dreaming of my next escape.

St. Bart’s would be nice. Obviously! There are some seriously swanky spots that seem unbelievable (i.e. Hotel Isle de France, Eden Rock, Le Sereno…). But for something off the beaten path, what about the Hotel La Banane?

Ok. Maybe the name doesn’t do the place justice (!), but I’m curious what it’s like. It’s a “hidden” property of nine bungalows that was recently refurbished. Many items in the rooms were designed and made in the 50s by Pierre Jeanneret – the cousin of Le Corbusier – giving this spot a seemingly authentic mid-century-vibe.

What do you think? Charming or too kitschy?

My holiday is starting early this year. I’m off to the beach! Not just any beach, but the white sand, turquoise water type of beach. Yay.

I’m so excited. Aside from a 5 hr flight with 2 kids under the age of 4, things are looking pretty.

I’ll be back in touch when I’m well tanned! Have a fabulous week!
