It’s no secret that despite all the super charged toys we can buy our kids, you can make your little ones very happy with some simple household supplies. With that in mind, here are some fabulous items made from 100% recyclable cardboard.

MakeDo is an Australian company that provides the reusable connector system and lets your child do the rest. Everyday household objects can be made into imaginative toys.

When it comes to playroom furniture, I’ve tended to go the Ikea route. Here are some pieces that are tempting me to reconsider:

Double The Fun

I’m a proud new Auntie! Twice over, in fact – and not even from twins. Both of my sisters had babies in the past week. Little Molly was born on the 20th and my nephew Charlie came a week later on the 27th. I am so excited. In honour of their arrival, I wanted to dedicate the next few posts to kids related stuff.

Here’s a start with some gorgeous looking nurseries and kids rooms.

Rainy Day Find

I’m going to digress for a sec about talking about home stuff. It’s a rainy Sunday and I just spotted the perfect rain boots (and more) for my daughter. We have lots of striped clothing in this household and I’m a fan of unisex stuff, so it’s no great surprise that Swedish company Polarn O. Pyret caught my eye.

Now, there is one minor catch. The company doesn’t seem to ship to Canada – but I’m working on that. They do sell in the US. With a vacation States-bound next week, I might just be in luck.

Sweet Dreams

Something must be in the air, but I’ve received tons of inquiries lately about the toddler bed featured in the photograph with my buttons rug on my site. I figured this would be as good a time as any to share the details.

The bed is by Nume and I have to agree it’s quite lovely. And hey, if I can be so bold, I think it looks particularly nice with the buttons rug. What do you think?

I love the room featured below in Time Out NY Kids Spring Issue. The space was designed by Jennifer Ward for her Park Slope based clients.

Check out the little drafting table equipped with art supplies. It would be a definite hit with my daughter (well, and for me!).

Freewheeling

Happy New Year everyone. What a lovely vacation I just had. We took a last minute trip to Arizona. It was wonderful to get away. The weather was cooler than expected, but still crisp and fresh. Now we’re back, dealing with snow and below zero temperatures. Eek. I’m dreaming of sunnier days. It’s also my daughter’s birthday next week. I’m not sure where the past two years have gone, but I think my little girl is ready for a set of wheels. Well, this might be premature and the weather is not particularly conducive to this gift, but I have my eye on a LikeaBike. I love the simple design. I love the concept of avoiding training wheels. I’m not so sure I love the price tag, but I did spot a less expensive version by Tyke Rider (thanks coolmompicks!). Both will win me big points, I think, from my daughter who is itching for independence.
