French Living

Serge Mouille lighting, Moroccan Berber rug, herringbone floors…this spot in Lyon has all that and more…but doesn’t feel canned, in my opinion. This home feels livable and personal and beautifully unique.

Rug Placement: Dining Room

The dining room is a tricky spot for a rug…(food and all)…but can make such a difference! Wool is generally a very forgiving material and easy to clean. But, you’ll still need a vacuum on hand. Again, sizing questions are always raised. Ideally, I think it’s nice to be able to pull chairs out and sit back down without the legs catching on a part of the rug. But, this means your rug will need to be wider than you might like (i.e. more expensive) and might not fit your space. So, as always, work with what you’ve got and make your own rules.

Rug Placement: Living Room

I’m often asked how and where to place a rug. I’ll do some posts on various rooms, but as you can see…really anything goes! For the living room, if you can afford a bigger rug, I say, go for it – I tend to like a rug to go in front of the back legs of a couch – but there are lots of ways to get by with smaller pieces and there are definitely no rules. Would love to hear your thoughts on any / all of this. Comment on IG, Facebook or send an email to info@oliveryaphe.com.

Berber Rugs

These vintage Moroccan rugs are everywhere now. For good reason. Can’t go wrong, really.
