FAQs
How should I care for my rugs?
The best way to maintain a healthy life of your carpet is to keep it as clean as possible. Regular vacuuming is recommended. If a stain does occur, dilute it with water – but make sure not to get the rug too wet. Do not rub the carpet, but rather blot the stain. Start from the edge of the mark and work your way towards the center.
We also recommend professionally cleaning your rugs from time to time. Make sure that you choose a service provider that specializes in caring for the specific type of rug that you have.
Please note that it is normal for wool rugs to shed. Vacuuming the rug will reduce this shedding over time as will regular wear and use.
Do not put wool or cotton rugs in the washing machine or dryer.
We also suggest using a non-stick underpad under your Oliver Yaphe rugs as extra protection and to prevent the rug from slipping out of place.
What is the difference between a hand-knotted rug and a hand-tufted rug?
Hand-knotted rugs are woven by hand, knot by knot, with diligent craftsmanship and care. Theses rugs represent an incredibly high quality product and each rug is unique in its own way given the manual process involved.
The level of refinement of a hand-knotted rug is measured by the number of knots that fit per square inch. Our contemporary collection has 100 knots per square inch – which is considered a dense knot count. The denser the knot count, the more refined the rug.
Hand-tufted rugs are also made by hand, but instead of tying knots to a base, the wool is pushed through a backing. Oliver Yaphe tufted rugs are made on a cotton backing. The production process is faster for tufted rugs as opposed to hand-knotted rugs. Our tufted rugs are more plush than our hand-knotted collection, which is well suited for our kids collection.
Both rugs are lovely in their own way and are designed to meet different customer tastes and needs.
How are your flat weave rugs made?
These rugs are woven on a loom. They are produced in chenille.
