Mast Brothers Chocolate

Jul 18 2011

It was a few years ago, while wandering through Dean & Deluca on Broadway, that I first discovered Mast Brothers chocolate. There they were – two bearded brothers dishing out scrumptious samples. How could I not stop? Plus, have you seen the packaging? I mean, really…it’s so gorgeous you might find yourself saving wrappers.

And you know from the packaging that what is inside is pretty special as well. These brothers seriously care about what they produce and how they produce it – sourcing out organic ingredients from spots like Madagascar and The Dominican Republic and bringing it to Brooklyn in the most innovative (or basic) ways possible (i.e. on a 70-foot sailing schooner).

Anyhow, at $8 a bar (or whatever it might be now), it’s not an everyday treat. But this stuff is legit. This isn’t some canned pre-fab idea. And, this is exactly the type of product that gets my senses totally reeling.

Completely inspiring. Plus, I just learned care of Departures magazine that wrappers can be customized. Brilliant.

Bring it On!

Mar 1 2011

Here’s something you probably didn’t know about me – I’m a ping pong junkie. Should I say that out loud? Well, maybe junkie is a bit strong, but you get the picture.

When I spotted this James Perse Limited edition ping pong table on Remodelista, I got all giddy. And it looks like I’m not alone, the table is sold out!

In honour of this favoured past-time, I also wanted to share some shots of The Book Club in London. This cultural hang-out of sorts is located in London’s east end. It’s a spot for talks, readings, live music…and yes, ping pong.

This is my kind of place. Thanks to Miss Moss for the introduction.

Good Tidings

Jan 11 2010

New Year’s was pretty quiet this year. We had just returned from our holiday trip. Babysitter-less and exhausted, we opted to stay home. We did enjoy some delicious lobster and had a lovely time. But if there’s a party I could have gone to, I think it would have been the one I just read about in Food&Wine.

Forget the amazing food for a moment – I’d love to check out the Chemosphere house in Los Angeles. I mean, really. Art-book publisher Benedikt Taschen and his wife, Lauren, had a killer setting to ring in the New Year. They also brought two of the best-rated new chefs in 2009 (Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo) to cater the meal. Now, I admit, I’d never heard of Jon or Vinny before reading the article. But I imagine they’re pretty damn good.
Plus, guests got to take a “hillavator” or tram to reach the party. It is 2010 after all.
